Santa Fe’s Improved Public Protection Classification (PPC) from Insurance Service Organization (ISO) Could Mean Big Savings

Targeted News Service (Press Releases)

SANTA FE, N.M., Jan. 18 -- The city of Santa Fe issued the following news:

As of January 1st 2017, the City of Santa Fe has a new Public Protection Classification (PPC) from the Insurance Service Organization (ISO).

For some time, the City of Santa Fe Fire Department has been rated at a 4. While that is a positive number (only 23% of departments are rated that high), it has been a goal of the Fire Department to improve that score, and as part of that effort we have recently undergone an ISO Public Protection Classification review and survey of relevant data using their Fire Suppression Rating Schedules.

The result of this evaluation was an improved ISO Public Protection Classification from a 4 to a 2, a mark reached by only 2% of the more than 48,000 departments nation-wide who participate in the rating program.

The classification puts Santa Fe near the top nationwide in the ratings and can help secure lower fire insurance premiums available to communities with better public fire protection. A community's investment in fire mitigation is a proven and reliable predictor of future losses. Insurance companies use ISO Public Protection Classification information to help establish fair premiums for fire insurance, generally offering lower premiums in communities with better fire protection.

This new rating, as well as information about the work being done by the City Santa Fe Fire Department's Wildland Urban Interface Fire Mitigation Program in the Santa Fe Watershed and surrounding forest is good to share with your insurance agent.

Commercial business owners may save up to 6% on their insurance premiums with our new rating, so we encourage all business owners to follow up with their insurance company to see if any reductions are in order.
