Safety National Awards Safety First Grants for Creative Risk Control Solutions

Business Wire

ST. LOUIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Safety National announced the winners of the Company’s annual Safety First Grant Program, awarding three policyholders for their creative risk control solutions.

The first-place grant, in the amount of $10,000, was awarded to Yale University to host a series of mobile slip simulator training events. Training will provide hands-on experience to help negotiate slippery surfaces and, when possible, methods to avoid slip, trip and fall exposures altogether.

The second-place grant, in the amount of $5,000, was awarded to Miami Dade County Public Schools to expand Rebuild Me – a program designed to prevent injury, speed return to work, and address comorbidities by encouraging employees to engage in healthier lifestyles.

The third-place grant, in the amount of $2,500, was awarded to SDML Workers’ Compensation Fund to expand their grant program that provides lift equipment for volunteer ambulance, fire and rescue members. This equipment helps to reduce and eliminate back injuries that can result from lifting patients.

“As a carrier who handles catastrophic work injuries on a daily basis, we feel that it is our duty to advocate for employee safety,” said Mark Wilhelm, CEO at Safety National. “I am pleased to announce that, to date, the Safety First Grant Program has provided funding for 15 risk control projects that have helped our policyholders create safer work environments.”

The Safety First Grant Program is available to any Safety National workers’ compensation insurance policyholder with a risk control solution that aligns with Safety National’s lines of coverage.

“We applaud the winners for finding ways to create safer, more productive workplaces for their employees,” said Don Enke, Assistant Vice President – Risk Services at Safety National. “One of the criteria that we use to select our winners is repeatability, so we hope that other employers with similar risks can benefit from these solutions.”

The next grant application period will open in June 2020.
