Saama Teams With Hortonworks to Deliver Industry’s First Insurance Analytics Platform

Business Wire

Dedicated and Proven Industry-Specific Insurance Components Combine for Fastest Access to Advanced Analytics

Demonstrated At Hadoop Summit - Saama Booth S28, San Jose Convention Center, June 9-11

CAMPBELL, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Saama Technologies, Inc., the leading pure-play analytics solutions company, has partnered with Hortonworks® (NASDAQ:HDP), the leading contributor to and provider of enterprise Apache™ Hadoop®, to deliver the industry’s first insurance-specific data analytics platform. This combined offering helps insurance companies quickly uncover and operationalize strategic data assets and deploy pre-integrated analytics solutions across their companies.

Data is the most important asset for insurance companies. Based on the flexibility and reach of the new data lake, insurance companies will be able to deploy elastic search and completely new analytics use-cases to help with coding and underwriting. For the first time, analysts, underwriters and actuaries will have direct access to the data in native format in a self-service mode. They will be able to surface and experiment with new data sources and combinations of data objects, increasing competitive edge for their companies.

Saama will focus on the team-selling, implementation and deployment of Hortonworks together with the overall solution build. The two companies will integrate Saama’s Insurance Data Model, Fluid Analytics EngineTM and Hortonworks Hadoop Technology. This will enable insurance companies to integrate and leverage all kinds of unstructured and structured data sources from inside and outside the company through a uniform and accessible data lake for explorative, advanced analytics at the speed of business.

“Insurance companies can now leverage the best technology in the industry to make more informed underwriting decisions,” said Chris LaBruna, Saama Chief Revenue Officer. “With this partnership, we are bringing together Hortonworks’ unique implementation of Hadoop as an open source data warehouse with a unified common data platform, and Saama’s expertise around the data extraction insurance data model and prefab connect, explore and visualization components.”

"Partners are an absolutely essential element for achieving enterprise pervasiveness of Hadoop across all vertical industries,” said Mark Ledbetter, Vice President Industry Solutions at Hortonworks. “We have seen significant growth in the demand for trusted, expert Hadoop services. Saama's commitment to the insurance industry and experience enabling solutions on a modern data architecture help insurance companies achieve their data-driven business objectives.”

“Together, Hortonworks and Saama deliver a highly accelerated Hadoop blueprint for insurance companies,” continues Chris LaBruna. “We are offering the flexibility and speed of a solution provider with the industry’s only 100% Hadoop solution in an open platform that integrates with existing IT investments. Ultimately our goal is to effectively and efficiently help insurance companies deliver better policies.”
