Retirement planning session set for Saturday

Enid News & Eagle (OK)

March 07--There are two components to retirement planning: personal planning and financial planning.

Personal planning is important because it is the determining factor of your satisfaction with your retirement lifestyle. Financial planning is crucial because it identifies your sources of income and expenses and establishes your retirement budget, based on your personal plan.

All too often people entering retirement do not place enough emphasis on personal planning to ensure they maximize their opportunities. So take time Saturdayto think about the choices you have and about how you would like to spend your time during retirement.

"Ready to Retire ... A Fair" will be held in Montgomery Hall in the Gantz Center at Northern Oklahoma College Enid, 2402 E. Maine. The fair is free and will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. Rural Health Projects, OHAI, Oklahoma Healthy Aging Initiative, Senior Life Network and LTCA of Enid Area Agency on Aging are the host agencies for this event. There will be drawings for door prizes throughout the fair.

This will be an opportunity for pre-retirees to see if they will have adequate funds to provide the kind of retirement lifestyle they envision. Claire Dowers-Nichols, associate director for Oklahoma Healthy Aging Initiative, will be the key note speaker. OHAI is supported by a grant from the Donald W Reynolds Department of Geriatrics at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.

Breakout sessions will be: "Retirement Ready," presented by Lesa Rauh, OSU Extension educator; "Retirement by Design," presented by Will Gungoll, Enid financial adviser; "Important Legal Documents for Retirees," presented by Randy Long, Enid attorney; "Medical Identity Theft," by Ray Walker, divisional director for the Senior Health Insurance Counseling Program and the Senior Medicare Patrol Program at the Oklahoma Insurance Department; "Looking Good at Any Age," by Cyndy Meyer; and "Cooking for Two," presented by Pamela Patty, Integris community dietician.

Attendees will have the opportunity to visit and receive free materials from more than 20 vendors.

The fair is for people of all ages, not just those nearing retirement. It is designed to help people adequately save for retirement and also will encourage people to plan for all lifestyle aspects of their retirement.

For information, call (580) 234-7475.
