REPUBLICANS' DISASTROUS HEALTH CARE AGENDA LEAVES MILLIONS OF AMERICANS WITHOUT COVERAGE

The following information was released by the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Energy and Commerce, Democrats:

House Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone Jr., D-N.J., and Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today released their latest report monitoring the devastating impact of Donald Trump and Republicans' Big Ugly Bill, which has forced millions of Americans to face skyrocketing health care costs and even drop coverage entirely.

As the affordability crisis continues to dominate all aspects of Americans' lives, many have been forced to reconsider if they can afford to keep coverage. Under Trump's disastrous health care legislation, one in four Americans made tough decisions about paying for their health coverage or other needs, like paying the rent, affording groceries, and buying gas to go to work.

"One year after Trump signed his Big Ugly Bill, millions have lost their health care coverage, premiums and deductibles have skyrocketed, and hospitals and clinics have shuttered across the country," Pallone said. "This bill has been absolutely devastating as Republicans prioritized tax cuts for billionaires over health care for everyday Americans."

"Millions of Americans are having to sacrifice their health care to pay for basic necessities," Wyden said. "Republicans' health care agenda was never about building health care in America, but more about gutting it to help pay for more tax breaks for Trump's billionaire buddies."

May numbers showed a continuing devastating assault on Americans' health care.

Hospitals, clinics, and other health care services are all suffering: 19 hospital closures, clinic closures, and service reductions across 12 states: Alaska, Georgia, Iowa, Indiana, North Carolina, Nevada, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, and West Virginia.

Essential health care workers are losing their jobs: 621 employees laid off across 5 states: North Carolina, Nevada, New York, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island.

These numbers come nearly one year after Trump signed the Big Ugly Bill into law, which boasted the largest cuts to health care in American history: more than $1 trillion in cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

Now, deductibles for health insurance plans on the Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplace have increased by$1,027, on average, in 2026 alone. As a result, thousands of Americans are choosing to cut their health care plans, just to stay afloat financially.

Trump's notorious legislation has wreaked havoc on the American health care system. In addition to insurance premiums skyrocketing, 254 clinics and hospitals have closed across 42 states, and some 9,015 health care employees from 30 states have lost their jobs since July 2025.

Last month, Pallone and Wyden released a report on the impact of Republican health care cuts for April 2026.
