Water is being removed from the stage and pit area. Smoke that permeated the theater, 1,100 upholstered seats and the curtains must be eliminated. But there was no structural damage and the rest of the school was not affected.
Although the stage was being prepared for upcoming performances earlier Sunday, the cause of the fire remains unknown, Suedbeck said.
It is believed to have been accidental. No one was in the school when the fire broke out.
Administrators are working with dance and theater organizations that had rented the stage to reschedule or move to a different part of the building while restoration proceeds. A parent course selection event scheduled Tuesday is still on, but will be move to the library.
Insurance is expected to cover the cost of repairs. Contractors were in the theater on Monday to review the damage, but no estimate was immediately available as to how much repairs will cost.
