WASHINGTON, April 9 -- Rep. Susan Wild, D-Pennsylvania, issued the following news release:
Rep. Susan Wild (PA-07) joined President Biden and President Obama as the White House announced new steps to build upon the Affordable Care Act, including an executive order and a proposed rule to fix the ACA's "family glitch," an issue that Wild recently led a letter to the President to address.
"Quality, affordable health care should be the right of every person in this country, not a privilege for those fortunate enough to have it," said Rep. Wild. "Today, President Biden's proposed actions to strengthen the ACA by fixing the 'family glitch' will expand affordable health coverage to nearly 1 million Americans and save hundreds of thousands of families hundreds of dollars a month, a monumental step towards ensuring everyone in the Greater Lehigh Valley has the peace of mind that health insurance brings. I am proud to see that our calls to build upon the Affordable Care Act and strengthen our health care system are being heard, and I will continue to fight to lower health care costs for every American."
Rep. Wild has been a leading voice in Congress calling to lower the costs of health care for Americans. In 2019, she introduced the Family Health Care Affordability Act, a bill to fix the 'family glitch' - a loophole that preventing some workers from being able to expand their employer-provided health insurance to cover their families by disqualifying them for the subsidies they need to be able to afford the increase in cost of covering their spouse and children.
President Biden's freshly announced proposal follows Rep. Wild's recent letter urging him to close the "family glitch" ahead of this year's ACA Marketplace Open Enrollment period.
