Rep. Watson Coleman Introduces Bill to Prohibit Using Income Proxies to Determine Insurance Rates

WASHINGTON, Feb. 25 -- Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman, D-N.J., has introduced legislation (H.R. 1270) to "prohibit private passenger automobile insurers from using certain income proxies to determine insurance rates and eligibility."

The bill was introduced on Feb. 23 and has 11 co-sponsors. Co-sponsors include Reps. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., Mark Takano, D-Calif., Bennie G. Thompson, D-Miss., Jahana Hayes, D-Conn., Mondaire Jones, D-N.Y., Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., Jesus Garcia, D-Ill., Barbara Lee, D-Calif., Sanford D. Bishop Jr., D-Ga., Alcee L. Hastings, D-Fla., and Del. Eleanor Holmes-Norton, D-D.C.

The legislation was jointly referred to the House Financial Services and Energy and Commerce committees.
