WASHINGTON, Oct. 3 -- Rep. Francis Rooney, R-Fla., issued the following news release:
On September 10, 2017, President Donald J. Trump issued a Major Disaster Declaration for the State of Florida triggering the release of Federal funds to help people and communities recover from Hurricane Irma. After much discussion with local officials and federal agencies, this disaster declaration has now been amended. The President has approved a 90 percent Federal cost share for debris removal, for a period of 30 days from the date of the declaration. The 90 percent reimbursement is a 15 percent increase from originally approved levels, and is in line with requests from city and county officials.
Congressman Rooney stated, "I have been in constant contact with The White House, FEMA, and leaders from state and local governments, in an effort to take the burden of Hurricane Irma recovery off the backs of our cities and counties. I thank President Trump for understanding the necessity of this reimbursement and for his continual engagement on Florida's recovery efforts. While we were together touring the devastation in Collier and Lee County, his engagement and compassion provided encouragement to many."
All counties and Indian Tribes in the State of Florida are eligible to apply for assistance under the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. Additional designations may be made at a later date if requested by the State and warranted by the results of further damage assessments.
