WASHINGTON, Nov. 3 -- Rep. Phil Roe, R-Tenn., issued the following statement after the House passed the Championing Healthy Kids Act (H.R. 3922), which reauthorizes funding for the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP):
"I proudly supported the extension of the Children's Health Insurance Program, which extends an important health care safety net for low-income children. I am disappointed that after Republicans agreed to Democrats' requests to postpone consideration of this important extension, Democrats were still not able to support this important legislation.
"I thank the 15 Democrats who did the right thing and voted in favor of it. This legislation will ensure community health centers can continue providing comprehensive health care services to populations that otherwise would not be able to afford it.
"Places like Camp Creek Medical Center, which I visited recently, depend on this funding, and I hope the Senate will quickly take up this legislation."
