Rep. Pascrell Issues Statement on President Trump’s Prescription Drug Price Proposal

WASHINGTON, May 11 -- Rep. Bill Pascrell Jr., D-New Jersey, issued the following statement on President Trump's prescription drug price proposal:
"Yet again we see that this administration's stock in trade is breaking promises. After making repeated guarantees to push Medicare to negotiate drug prices, Donald Trump is showing he never had any intention of doing anything meaningful to help the American consumer. Today's announcement falls woefully short of addressing the cost of prescription drugs in this country. In fact, it barely addresses the problem at all. Instead of taking the opportunity to effectuate real change for our seniors and people living with rare diseases, cancers, and other maladies, this administration's true commitment is to business as usual.
"As the number of uninsured rises across our nation due to Republican policies, we are left with more questions than answers about how these proposals would achieve their lofty goal. I urge my colleagues in the majority on the Ways and Means Committee to work in a bipartisan manner and consider meaningful proposals to reign in costs across the health care industry, including the spiraling cost of prescription drugs. But the bottom line is today's proposals are a monument to Donald Trump's fake populism."
