Rep. Neguse Appointed Vice-Chair of Medicare for All Caucus

Targeted News Service (Press Releases)

WASHINGTON, Feb. 25 -- Rep. Joseph Neguse, D-Colorado, issued the following news release:

Congressman Joe Neguse joins the Medicare for All Caucus as a Vice-Chair and signs onto Medicare for All Act of 2019, set to be introduced this week.

"Today, millions of Americans still don't have health insurance or are underinsured, and in many areas, especially in the mountain communities in our district, too many people are forced to pay high premiums or deductibles because there are too few providers in the area," said Congressman Joe Neguse. "The Medicare for All Act would extend Medicare coverage to the whole population, saving families up to 14% on health care costs each year and ensuring that everyone receives high-quality affordable health care."

"The costs of the current system, in terms of economics and in Americans' lives, are unsustainable," said Paul Shearon, President of the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE) "The Medicare for All Act of 2019 would raise the quality and standard of care across all communities in the U.S., provide comprehensive care for all Americans, improve our economic productivity, and help America's competitiveness in the global economy."

"The Colorado AFL-CIO represents over 130 thousand workers from across the state. Each of these workers deserves affordable, accessible healthcare that they can count on for themselves and their families," said Dennis Dougherty, Executive Director of Colorado AFL-CIO. "Time and again far too many workers are left with the impossible choice between their health and paying other bills essential to their livelihoods. It's time to bring universal healthcare to our nation and ensure that every one of us can access the care we need."

"Passing the new Medicare for All Act would protect Americans' health and financial wellbeing while saving money," said the Colorado Foundation for Universal Health Care. "Guaranteeing health care for everyone--without copays and deductibles--is the right thing to do. The Colorado Foundation for Universal Health Care stands with the American people and countless groups in our full support this legislation. It's time: Quality affordable health care for all for life!"

"We couldn't be more pleased that Rep. Joe Neguse, an exciting new member of Congress, is joining the Medicare for All caucus as a vice-chair and will be endorsing Rep. Jayapal's landmark Medicare for All Act of 2019," said Lisa Gilbert, Director of Legislative Affairs at Public Citizen. "Rep. Neguse's strong support for ensuring everyone in the U.S. has guaranteed access to health care comes at a crucial time. Americans are demanding a health care system that works for them--instead of corporate interests--and champions like Rep. Neguse are poised to deliver the change we need."

"All of us owe Congressman Neguse a debt of gratitude for his hard, effective work to make high quality health care a guaranteed right for every American. As a cosponsor of the Medicare for All Act of 2019 and co-chair of the Medicare for All caucus, he is working particularly hard for the 55 million Americans, including nearly 800,000 Coloradans, who are currently enrolled in Medicare and will especially benefit." said Nancy Altman, President of Social Security Works. "Medicare for All will improve the current Medicare program by adding long-term care, as well as dental, hearing and vision services, while eliminating premiums, co-pays, and deductibles. Thank you, Congressman Neguse, for fighting for seniors and their families."
