Rep. Matsui Introduces Bill to Protect Sacramento Region’s Flood Protection Funding

WASHINGTON, Feb. 12 -- Rep. Doris O. Matsui, D-California, issued the following news release:

President Trump has threatened to divert federal funds from U.S. Army Corps of Engineers civil works projects, which could include $1.8 billion that the Sacramento region received as part of the long-term disaster recovery bill to strengthen Sacramento's levees and raise the Folsom Dam. Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA) joined several of her California Delegation colleagues to introduce legislation to ensure that this money could not be taken away from the Sacramento region.

"President Trump's threat needs to be stopped in its tracks. The Sacramento region can't take any chances of this critical funding being diverted in order to pay for an unpopular and ineffective border wall," said Congresswoman Doris Matsui. "Sacramento is the second most flood-prone metropolitan area in America, and desperately needs this funding to improve our resiliency against flooding and ensure our residents are safe. In recognizing the vulnerability of the Sacramento region, Congress appropriated these funds, and it's critical that we keep this lifesaving money."
