U.S. Representative Mike Levin (D-CA) issued the following statement on the confirmation of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the United States Supreme Court:
"This is a dark day for the Senate, the Supreme Court, and our democracy. Instead of allowing the American people to decide who should nominate the next Supreme Court Justice, Senate Republicans broke institutional rules and the precedent they set four years ago to rush through a confirmation process just eight days before a presidential election.
"They confirmed someone who will vote to eliminate the Affordable Care Act and protections for millions of people with pre-existing conditions; someone who will attack women's reproductive rights; someone who will undermine protections for LGBTQ individuals; someone who will erode voting rights, and so much more.
"This nominee and Senate Republicans' confirmation process is a stark rejection of what the late Justice Ginsburg stood for: justice and equality.
"I will continue to fight for those values in Congress and will work with my colleagues to protect the American people from any Supreme Court decision that attacks their health care or their rights."
