Rep. Foster Issues Statement on Passage of Spending Bill

WASHINGTON, July 28 -- Rep. Bill Foster, D-Ill., issued the following statement on the passage of the spending bill in the House:

"I voted against this legislation because it included spending for projects that are antithetical to our American values and a waste of taxpayer dollars. The Southern border wall is a ridiculous use of resources and would only harm our country's role as a leader in democracy and freedom.

"Congress should offer a budget that will make American lives better - improve the Affordable Care Act, fix our nation's infrastructure, and grow the economy. I offered a bipartisan amendment this week that would have increased the budget for the Office of Science.

"Unfortunately, Republicans on the Rules Committee refused to bring this amendment to the floor. If the Republican Party is truly concerned about Americans and our country's future, they should invest in science and technology to ensure the United States remains a prosperous and safe place to call home."
