WASHINGTON, June 17 -- Rep. Daniel Kildee, D-Michigan, issued the following news release:

- Kildee Brings Local Leaders Together to Protect Coverage for Families, Including Michiganders with Pre-Existing Conditions

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, today held a roundtable with local health care leaders to discuss ways to lower health care costs and expand coverage for Michiganders, including protecting coverage for those with pre-existing conditions. The roundtable, held in Flint, brought together state lawmakers, local officials, health care workers, local hospitals, education and labor leaders, and others to talk about legislation before Congress to address the rising cost of health care and prescription drugs.

"Too many families in Michigan are worried about the high cost of health care and prescription drugs. In the richest country in the world, every American should have access to quality, affordable health care. I have co-sponsored legislation in Congress to protect health care coverage for people with pre-existing conditions, as well as lower the cost of prescription drugs. I will continue to push for solutions in Congress to lower costs and expand access so that every person has access to the health care they need to keep their families healthy," Congressman Kildee said.

In Congress, Congressman Kildee has acted on several pieces of legislation to lower the cost of health care and prescription drugs. He is a cosponsor of H.R. 986, the Protecting Americans with Pre-Existing Conditions Act, which would protect families from predatory junk insurance plans that do not offer comprehensive health care coverage, including coverage for pre-existing conditions.

He has also cosponsored H.R. 987, the Strengthening Health Care and Lowering Prescription Drug Costs Act, which would pave the way for generic prescription drugs to come into the market sooner, which can significantly lower costs for consumers.
