Rep. Cox Introduces Resolution Urging Congress to Repeal ACA’s Health Insurance Tax

ATLANTA, March 14 -- The Georgia House of Representatives issued the following news release:

State Representative Clay Cox (R-Lilburn) recently introduced House Resolution 589 urging the United States Congress to act immediately to repeal the Affordable Care Act's health insurance tax.

"Congress should move deliberately and quickly to repeal the most damaging portions of the Affordable Care Act," said Rep. Cox. "Repealing this tax would protect small businesses and individuals from insurance premium increases and will put more money into the pockets of Georgia families."

Under HR 589, the Georgia House of Representatives would recommend that the U.S. Congress immediately repeal the Affordable Care Act's health insurance tax, a direct sales tax on health insurance providers for the services they provide to individuals, families and other beneficiaries. According to studies conducted by management consulting firm Oliver Wyman, it is estimated that the health insurance tax costs small businesses an extra $280 annually and costs individuals an extra $220 annually. Two U.S. Congressmen recently introduced bipartisan legislation that would repeal the health insurance tax.
