Rep. Cardenas: Republicans Hiding ACA Repeal Text from American Public
Targeted News Service (Press Releases)
WASHINGTON, March 2 -- Rep. Tony Cardenas, D-Calif., a member of the Energy and Commerce subcommittee on Health, issued the following statement on Republicans' refusal to allow Members of Congress to read their drafted Affordable Care Act repeal legislation:
"Tuesday, House Speaker Paul Ryan said on national TV that Republicans were not, 'hatching some bill in a backroom and plopping it on the American people's front door.' Yet only two days later, that's exactly what they're doing. Only a small handful of Republicans are allowed to see it.
"When we asked to see the bill, Republicans refused. They're not allowing Democratic elected officials to see it. Ultimately, they're not allowing the American public to see it.
"The real issue is they're jeopardizing the healthcare of over 175 million Americans. And the real question here is simple: What are they hiding from the American people?"
