Realtor associations announce disaster grants to Alexander County flood victims

Aug. 8--EAST CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Egyptian Board of Realtors and Illinois Realtors Relief Foundation announced a $15,000 donation on Wednesday to assist families in Alexander County affected by spring flooding.

Illinois Realtors Relief Foundation was established by Illinois Realtors, which consists of 50,000 real estate professionals across the state, to assist communities affected by disaster.

Affected families are qualified for $500 to help cover expenses not covered by insurance, said Ron Deedrick, a local government affairs director for Illinois Realtors.

"Illinois Realtors, through the Illinois Realtor Relief Foundation, are committed to being involved in our communities through generous acts of kindness and trying to give back to those individuals and families who have been affected in times of disaster," Deedrick said.

In total, local associations and the Illinois Realtors Relief Foundation have given $65,000 to assist this spring's flood victims in the counties of Alexander, Jersey, Calhoun, Stephenson and Winnebago.

The funds won't make families whole for what they've lost, but will hopefully provide some short-term relief, Deedrick said. "Anything to get the homeowners and renters back on their feet quicker, we're happy to be there for that," he added.

Deedrick said the funds are being offered first come, first serve, with the caveat that they will prioritize the families with the greatest financial needs.
