R.I.’s 3 Medicaid insurance plans get high marks from rating agency
Providence Journal (RI)
Sept. 23--Rhode Island's three Medicaid health insurance plans received some of the highest ratings among nearly 300 reviewed by the National Committee for Quality Assurance.
Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island and UnitedHealthcare Community Plan have offered coverage in Rhode Island since 1994. Both received a score of 4.5 out of 5 based on consumer satisfaction, prevention and treatment.
Tufts Health Plan is new to the state this year, and its Rhode Island option is not yet rated. However, Tufts' Massachusetts plan received a 4.5 rating.
Ten Medicaid plans across the country out of nearly 300 received a 4.5. Only one plan ranked higher: Jai Medical Systems Managed Care Organization in Maryland received a perfect score.
Peter Marino, president and CEO of Neighborhood Health Plan, pointed out that the plan is one of six in the country to get the 4.5 rating for three years in a row.
Medicaid members enrolled in RIte Care, Medicaid Expansion and Rhode Health Partners can select to change health plans during open enrollment, which runs through Oct. 31. Members can call HealthSource RI at (855) 840-4774 to learn about their options.
