Quantum Spatial to Sponsor USGS Coalition Briefing on Increasing Resilience in Face of Natural Hazards

PR Web

Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) September 14, 2017

Quantum Spatial, Inc., the nation's largest independent geospatial data firm, today announced that it is sponsoring the USGS Coalition Lunch Briefing - "Flood Modeling, Infrastructure Planning and 3D Mapping Technologies: Increasing Resilience in the Face of Natural Hazards" - on October 3, 2017 at noon ET. The purpose of the luncheon is to educate members of Congress, their staff and numerous other interested parties on the application of new mapping technologies in planning for infrastructure, natural hazards and disaster recovery efforts.

These technologies play an integral role in the United States Geological Survey (USGS) 3D Elevation Program (3DEP), which supports collection of high-resolution topographic data collection using LiDAR. Advanced mapping and analytics solutions provide detailed insights about natural and constructed features, which is then used to identify flood plains; plan for highways, dams and other projects; restore watersheds; and mitigate damage from landslides, earthquakes and coastal flooding.

"Geospatial data collected through 3DEP is transforming the way that federal, state and local authorities, nonprofits and private businesses address construction and infrastructure, protect the environment and prepare for both natural and manmade disasters," said Kurt Allen, vice president at Quantum Spatial. "We are proud to support the 3DEP program and this USGS Coalition briefing, which is educating the public on the importance of 3D mapping and its impact on our day-to-day lives."
