Psychoanalytic Association Expresses Opposition to Latest Attempt to Repeal the Affordable Care Act

NEW YORK, Sept. 26 -- The American Psychoanalytic Association issued the following news release:

The American Psychoanalytic Association (APsaA) strongly opposes the Graham-Cassidy Bill, the latest attempt to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The Association joins Senators John McCain and Susan Collins, the American Medical Association, American Nurses Association, American Psychiatric Association, American Association for Retired Persons, the March of Dimes, and many other medical and human rights organizations in opposing this legislation.

"The ACA has significantly improved access to healthcare for millions of Americans, including those who struggle with mental disorders and addictions," said Harriet Wolfe, MD, president of APsaA. "This proposed legislation could strip our must vulnerable patients, including veterans, women, children, and citizens with limited means from the care they desperately need to thrive and survive."

A healthcare system that is stable, predictable, and protective provides a psychological benefit to everyone, whether they end up needing it or not. The American Psychoanalytic Association is ready, willing and able to work with members of Congress to create bipartisan solutions that improve the ACA and do not leave fellow citizens in jeopardy of losing access to care they need for themselves and their families.
