President Trump Approves Major Disaster Declaration for Nevada

WASHINGTON, Feb. 17 -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency issued the following news release:

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced that federal disaster assistance has been made available to the State of Nevada to supplement state, tribal, and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by severe winter storms, flooding, and mudslides from January 5 to January 14, 2017.

Federal funding is available to state, tribal, and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by severe winter storms, flooding, and mudslides in Douglas, Lyon, Storey, and Washoe counties; the independent city of Carson City; and the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe, the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, and the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California.

Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide.

Rosalyn L. Cole has been named as the Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in the affected area. Cole said additional designations may be made at a later date if requested by the state and warranted by the results of further damage assessments.
