President Trump again takes aim at Baltimore, calling it a ‘disaster’ in a tweet

Baltimore Sun (MD)

President Donald Trump took aim at Baltimore calling it a “total disaster” in a tweet on Sunday afternoon.

The tweet, which blamed former President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden for the state of Baltimore and other cities including St. Louis and Oakland, comes a little over three weeks before election day.

“People don’t remember the chaos, hatred & discord that we all went through during the 8 years of Obama/Biden. St. Louis, Oakland, Baltimore, and so many other places, were a complete & total disaster,” Trump said in the tweet. “I wouldn’t be in the beautiful White House if it weren’t for Sleepy Joe, etc.”

The president’s tweet echoes a similar sentiment to what he said during the first presidential debate on Sept. 29 saying the violence was higher during Obama’s time in office compared to now.

“You look at Ferguson, look at Oakland, look at what happened in Baltimore. Frankly, it was more violent than what I’m even seeing now,” the president said during the debate.

After the debate, Baltimore City Council President Brandon Scott, who is also the Democratic nominee for mayor, tweeted that the president should “keep Baltimore out of your mouth" unless he was “bringing resources and addressing economic, racial and environmental injustices.”

This is not the first time the president has been critical of Baltimore on social media.

Last month, Trump referred to Baltimore as “the WORST IN NATION” while endorsing Republican congressional candidate Kimberly Klacik. The Republican president has repeatedly attacked the city and its leadership, including the late Rep. Elijah Cummings and his leadership in the 7th District calling the area “rat and rodent infested.”
