Power To Decide Praises Introduction Of The EACH Act

WASHINGTON, Jan. 27 (TNStalk) -- Power to Decide issued the following statement on Jan. 26, 2023:

Power to Decide applauded U.S. Representatives Barbara Lee (D-Calif.), Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.), Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) and Diana DeGette (D-Colo.) for introducing the Equal Access to Abortion Coverage in Health Insurance (EACH) Act. The EACH Act would eliminate long-standing barriers to care for people who qualify for public health insurance. The bill would also prohibit federal interference with private health insurance companies that provide coverage for abortion care.

"By overturning Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court's decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization emboldened anti-abortion lawmakers in many states to intensify their efforts to restrict or outright ban abortion access. As it stands, 14 states are now without a clinic that provides abortion, denying this essential care to more than 15 million people who can become pregnant, with the burden falling hardest on people of color and those who struggle to make ends meet. In this new landscape, it is increasingly urgent for policymakers at every level to take action to protect access to abortion and other reproductive health care.

"The EACH Act would ensure that many more people can access--and afford--the abortion care they need by eliminating discriminatory cost barriers. While we know that no one piece of legislation can undo the damage of overturning Roe, the EACH Act remains an important and necessary step forward in building a future where abortion is truly accessible for all.

"We are grateful for the leadership of Reps. Lee, Pressley, Schakowsky and DeGette, and for the many other legislative champions of reproductive well-being.
