FAIRFIELD, New Jersey, May 24 -- The campaign of Mikie Sherrill, a Democrat running for election in New Jersey's11th Congressional District, issued the following campaign news:
Today, Planned Parenthood Action Fund announced its endorsement of Mikie Sherrill for New Jersey's11th Congressional District. The endorsement comes in the lead up to the June 5th Primary Election in New Jersey.
"Millions of patients around the country rely on Planned Parenthood health centers for birth control, cancer screenings, and other preventive care. The Planned Parenthood Action Fund knows how critical it is to have strong champions for reproductive rights and health care in Congress, especially while the Trump-Pence administration attacks women's health and rights time and time again," said Dawn Laguens, Executive Vice President of Planned Parenthood Action Fund. "We need leaders like Mikie Sherrill who will stand up to make sure GOP leadership in Washington does not put politics ahead of the needs of the people of New Jersey, and we are proud to endorse her."
"We are all too familiar here in New Jersey with what happens when patients go without health care," said Mikie Sherrill. "Governor Chris Christie cut reproductive health programs, and the rate of sexually transmitted infections rose dramatically. We need new leadership in Washington, committed to protecting access to cancer screenings, maternal healthcare, wellness exams, and reproductive freedom in New Jersey. I am proud to have the support of Planned Parenthood Action Fund, and I am ready to work hard to get quality and affordable healthcare for all Americans."
