PhyMed Healthcare Group Names John E. Rutherford Vice President of Managed Care

Managed Care Weekly Digest

By a News Reporter-Staff News Editor at Managed Care Weekly Digest -- PhyMed Healthcare Group, a physician-led and owned leader of anesthesia and pain management, is pleased to announce John E. Rutherford has been named the company's new vice president of managed care. In this role, Rutherford will be responsible for overseeing all non-government related insurance and payer relationships for PhyMed, including payer contract management and financial modeling (see also PhyMed Healthcare Group).

Rutherford will leverage his prior experience working for and with payers to enhance ongoing payer relationship management for the company. Most recently, Rutherford served as director of network management and contracting for Aetna Health Plans of Tennessee and Arkansas. Prior to Aetna, he was assistant vice president of healthcare consulting and management services for Parallon Business Solutions, an HCA company, and he was senior account executive for key accounts at United Healthcare. He has also held senior leadership roles with Symbion Healthcare and MD Synergy.

"We are confident John's extensive experience working for payers coupled with a strong financial background perfectly aligns with our strategic goals of ensuring partner organizations spend more time focusing on patients and care quality and less time worrying about payment and finances," said Sam E. Daniel, chief financial officer of PhyMed Healthcare Group. "John's leadership in this department will help us ensure reimbursement accurately reflects the quality of services rendered, so care quality, financial and volume goals are achieved across our partner organizations."

"As healthcare transitions from fee-for-service to value-based care, enhanced payer relationships will be a driving force for improving value at hospitals and healthcare organizations," said John Rutherford. "I was impressed with PhyMed's commitment to promoting clinical excellence, quality patient care and better outcomes, and I'm eager to lead the company's managed care efforts moving forward."

Rutherford holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from Baylor University, and he has more than 23 years of combined experience in the managed care, payer and healthcare industries.
