Pelosi Statement on Kelly Report on Health Disparities in America
Congressional Documents & Publications
Washington, D.C. - Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement highlighting Congressional Black Caucus Health Braintrust Chair Dr. Robin Kelly's 2015 Kelly Report on Health Disparities in America:
"Congresswoman Kelly's 2015 report shines a bright light on one of the urgent moral challenges before America: inequality in health.
"Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, our nation has made monumental strides in expanding access to affordable, quality health care to families in every community. Due to the ACA, the uninsured rate has dropped from 17.3 percent in 2013 to 11.7 percent in the first half of 2015. There are now 17 million previously uninsured Americans who have gained health insurance. We have ensured that the miracle of modern medicine will now be the right of every American, not the privilege of the few.
"Yet too many communities still suffer disproportionately poor health and shorter life expectancy. The findings of the Kelly Report must serve as a fresh challenge for Congress to act. We must build on the progress of the Affordable Care Act and redouble our efforts to ensure underserved communities get the resources they need."
