Insurance Daily News

2022 SEP 29 (NewsRx) -- By a News Reporter-Staff News Editor at Insurance Daily News -- According to news reporting originating from Alexandria, Virginia, by NewsRx journalists, a patent by the inventors Huls, Eric D. (Chicago, IL, US), Irey, Grady (Des Plaines, IL, US), Kazas, Frank (Inverness, IL, US), Lundsgaard, Soren K. (Inverness, IL, US), filed on December 4, 2017, was published online on September 13, 2022.

The assignee for this patent, patent number 11443381, is Allstate Insurance Company (Northbrook, Illinois, United States).

Reporters obtained the following quote from the background information supplied by the inventors: “Aspects of the disclosure relate to electrical computers, digital processing systems, and multicomputer data processing. In particular, one or more aspects of the disclosure relate enabling multicomputer processing of data from telematics devices with centralized event control.

“As computer systems are increasingly utilized to provide automated and electronic services, such computer systems may obtain and maintain increasing amounts of various types of sensitive information, and ensuring the safety, security, and accuracy of this information may be increasingly important. In many instances, however, it may be difficult to ensure the safety and security of such information while also optimizing the efficient and effective technical operations of the computer systems that process such information and/or provide such automated and electronic services.”

In addition to obtaining background information on this patent, NewsRx editors also obtained the inventors’ summary information for this patent: “Aspects of the disclosure provide effective, efficient, scalable, and convenient technical solutions that address and overcome the technical problems associated with providing information security and optimizing the efficient and effective technical operations of computer systems. In particular, one or more aspects of the disclosure provide techniques for processing user data using multicomputer data processing technology and centralized event control to improve information security and enhance technical performance.

“In accordance with one or more embodiments, an event control computing platform having at least one processor, a memory, and a communication interface may establish, via the communication interface, a connection to one of a plurality of telematics devices associated with a user. While the connection is established, the event control computing platform may receive vehicle operational data from the one of the plurality of telematics devices associated with the user. Subsequently, the event control computing platform may identify, based on the vehicle operational data, whether at least one criterion associated with the user has been satisfied. Then the event control computing platform may determine, based on the vehicle operational data, that the at least one criterion associated with the user has been satisfied. Next, in response to determining that at least one criterion associated with the user has been satisfied, the event control computing platform may generate a command configured to cause a change to a subunit of user data. Then the event control computing platform may transmit, via the communication interface, the command to a subunit provisioning server.

“In some embodiments, the vehicle operation data may comprise real-time vehicle operational data. In other embodiments, the at least one criterion associated with the user may comprise driving a vehicle associated with the user below a predetermined speed. In other embodiments, the at least one criterion associated with the user may comprise driving a vehicle associated with the user within a predetermined geographic area. In yet other aspects, the at least one criterion associated with the user may comprise not exceeding a maximum rate at which pressure is applied to a braking mechanism associated with a vehicle of the user.

“In further aspects, the event control computing platform may generate an output based on the change to the subunit of the user data. In some aspects, the event control computing platform may transmit a first portion of the output to a user computing device and a second portion of the output to a primary unit provisioning server. In other aspects, the event control computing platform may transmit a first portion of the output to a user computing device, a second portion of the output to a primary unit provisioning server, and a third portion of the output to a subunit provisioning server.

“In some aspects, the event control computing platform may determine that the at least one criterion associated with the user is no longer satisfied (e.g., after determining that the at least one criterion associated with the user is satisfied, making a second, subsequent determination that the at least one criterion associated with the user is not satisfied). Further still, the event control computing platform may generate a second command configured to undo the change to the subunit of the user data. In other aspects, the event control computing platform may transmit, via the communication interface, the second command to the subunit provisioning server.”

The claims supplied by the inventors are:

“1. A computing platform, comprising: at least one processor; a communication interface communicatively coupled to the at least one processor; and memory storing computer-readable instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the computing platform to: establish, via the communication interface, a connection to one of a plurality of telematics devices associated with a user; while the connection is established, receive vehicle operational data from the one of the plurality of telematics devices associated with the user; identify, based on the vehicle operational data, whether at least one criterion associated with the user has been satisfied; identify a subunit provisioning server from among a plurality of subunit provisioning servers that have submitted bids contingent upon one or more criteria groups, wherein the identified subunit provisioning server is identified based on corresponding bid being assessed in relation to each of the one or more criteria groups; generate and trigger a first command configured to cause a change to a subunit of user data based on the identified subunit provisioning server, wherein the change to the subunit of user data includes at least partially transitioning an insurance coverage from a first insurance policy to send a second insurance policy and initiating temporary coverage provided by the second insurance policy, the temporary coverage provided until at least another criterion associated with the user has been satisfied; and transmit, via the communication interface, the first command to the identified subunit provisioning server.

“2. The computing platform of claim 1, wherein the vehicle operational data comprises real-time vehicle operational data.

“3. The computing platform of claim 1, wherein the at least one criterion associated with the user comprises one or more of driving a vehicle associated with the user below a predetermined speed, within a predetermined geographic area, not exceeding a maximum rate at which pressure is applied to a breaking mechanism associated with the vehicle.

“4. The computing platform of claim 1, wherein the one or more criteria groups associated with the plurality of subunit provisioning servers correspond one or more bids.

“5. The computing platform of claim 4, wherein identifying the identified subunit provisioning server is based on a comparison of the one or more bids.

“6. The computing platform of claim 1, wherein the memory stores additional computer-readable instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the computing platform to: generate an output based on the change to the subunit of user data.

“7. The computing platform of claim 6, wherein the memory stores additional computer-readable instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the computing platform to: transmit a first portion of the output to a user computing device and a second portion of the output to a primary unit provisioning server.

“8. The computing platform of claim 6, wherein the memory stores additional computer-readable instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the computing platform to: transmit a first portion of the output to a user computing device, a second portion of the output to a primary unit provisioning server, and a third portion of the output to the subunit provisioning server.
