Pa. state lawmaker claims fellow house member pulled a gun on her, threatened to kill them both

New York Daily News, The (NY)

March 10--A Pennsylvania state lawmaker has obtained a restraining order against her colleague after she claims he pulled a gun on her and threatened to kill them both back in 2012.

State Rep. Tarah Toohil, 38, alleged that Rep. Nick Miccarelli, 35, pulled a gun on her 2012 and threatened to crash his car while the two were riding in it as he sped 100 mph on a highway.

"He has threatened to kill me and kill himself before," Toohil wrote in her application for the order, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Toohil revealed that she was one of the two women who came forward last month to accuse Miccarelli of physical or sexual misconduct in a confidential complaint to House lawyers, according to the Inquirer.

"There were terrible moments that were nonconsensual at the hands of Rep. Miccarelli," Toohil said in a statement Friday to the Inquirer and Daily News and the Caucus. "And if I -- as a lawyer and a lawmaker -- could be this afraid of that individual, then I can only imagine how the other victims feel, which is why I am coming out publicly."

The two had previously been involved in a relationship between 2012 and 2014. Toohil also alleged that Miccarelli attempted to blackmail her by releasing photographs, and continued to stalk and harass her since their relationship ended.

A rep for Micarelli, Frank Keel, called the allegations part of a smear campaign and questioned why Toohil waited six years to make her complaints.

"She knew Nick was recently married. It's unconscionable that Toohil would abuse the (protection from abuse) process in this way at this time, knowing the shame and embarrassment it would bring to Nick and his new family," Keel said in a statement.

"This stunt provides further evidence that political forces beyond Toohil and Nick's other female accuser are pulling out all the stops to destroy Nick's good name and end his political career. Nick Miccarelli maintains his innocence. He has done nothing wrong and will continue to fight these outrageous and baseless allegations against him," the statement continued.

Micarelli, who is currently under investigation by the Dauphin County District Attorney's office and the House of Representatives stemming from last month's allegations, recently married on Feb. 17.

He has not been charged with a crime.

In addition to the accusations of stalking and harassing, Toohil claimed that she stapled a note to her life insurance policy that instructed Micarelli be investigated in event of her death.

The two women felt empowered to come forward against Micarelli in the wake of the #MeToo movement, her lawyer Terry Mitchler explained, according to PennLive. They particularly decided to hold him accountable for his alleged behavior after he wrote on Facebook: "The me too stuff is really hard to read. We must face this issue together."
