Orange City to break ground on Colin’s Dream skate park
News-Journal (Daytona Beach, FL)
March 04-- Mar. 4--Six years after Casi Sprague's 12-year-old son Colin Anderson was fatally struck by a vehicle while skateboarding with friends in Orange City, Sprague will see ground break on the skate park she's worked to have built in his honor.
The groundbreaking on Colin's Dream at Coleman Park, 210 E Blue Springs Ave., in Orange City is scheduled at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Colin was crossing the busy and poorly lit U.S. 17-92 near Roberts Street on Feb. 8, 2013, when he was hit by a pickup shortly before 9 p.m. Colin was airlifted to Halifax Health Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries the following day.
After Colin's death, it took his family just two months to establish a serious plan to make the boy's dream a reality.
With investment assistance from the Community Foundation of East Central Florida, Sprague raised $76,584. The Village Improvement Association donated $2,702, and Orange City covered the rest from its general fund to get Sprague to the $100,000 she needed to get an ECHO grant from Volusia County.
