One injured in wreck on Morganton Blvd

June 29--GAMEWELL -- One woman was injured on Monday morning after another driver lost control and sideswiped her vehicle on Morganton Boulevard in front of the QP gas station in Gamewell.

Patricia Lingerfelt, 49, of Lenoir was driving a silver 2003 Saturn west on Morganton Boulevard when a Honda driven by Reggie Miller of Lenoir, who was traveling east, suddenly swerved into Lingerfelt's lane and hit the driver's side of her car, Trooper Cliff Mangum from Caldwell County Highway Patrol said.

Lingerfelt was taken to Caldwell Memorial Hospital with what Mangum described as minor injuries.

Mangum said Miller has been charged with driving left of center, driving with license revoked, failed to register vehicle and no insurance.

Miller, still shaking minutes after the accident as he stood looking at his damaged car, said he wasn't sure what happened. His best guess was that something happened to the front left tire, which made him lose control of the vehicle.

"Next minute, it was gone. That's what I imagine," Miller said.

When asked how he was feeling, Miller struggled to find the words.

"(I'm) traumatized that maybe someone's hurt," Miller said.

The wreck left the left bumper of Miller's Honda shredded and pulled back like a tin can. Both airbags were deployed. Lingerfelt's Saturn was smashed in on the driver's side.

Miller said he just bought the Honda but had been having problems with it. He said it had been running hot, and he was on his way home to work on it. He dug in the trunk and pulled out a white rag to dab at a bleeding scrape across his arm.

"It's just a scratch. Praise (God)," Miller said.
