On the Senate Floor, Klobuchar Demands Protection of the Affordable Care Act

Targeted News Service (Press Releases)

WASHINGTON, March 26 -- The office of Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minnesota, issued the following news release:

- After the Administration announced support for striking down the Affordable Care Act, Klobuchar read letters and stories from 100 families across the country describing their health care challenges and the potential impact of losing crucial consumer protections if the landmark legislation disappeared

U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar took to the Senate floor tonight to defend the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and the expanded protections it has provided millions of Americans. After the Administration filed a brief supporting a ruling to unravel the Affordable Care Act, Klobuchar read letters and stories from 100 families across the country describing how the ACA positively impacts their lives and ways in which they would suffer without its consumer protections like ending pre-existing condition exclusions, eliminating lifetime limits, ensuring preventive care coverage, and much more.

"Those are just 100 stories--think of the millions more. The millions of people that would like to tell the President, and the Justice Department, and this Administration what it would mean if what they said they wanted to do last night actually happened. These are just 100 people from across the country," Klobuchar said. "These 100 people, they're not going to let this happen. These are the stories that this Administration needs to hear to understand that this isn't just some political battle... these are real Americans with real health care needs. We will fight this on their behalf until the end."

Broadcast-quality video of Klobuchar's remarks are available here (https://drive.google.com/open?id=1gbBqlAkB2usCdiIe2XcSs0KGG5GoXD2v).
