Old Stage Road fire still under investigation

Jan. 19--It's been a few days since that garage fire on Old Stage Road. I haven't seen a follow up with a cause on the news.

No news yet, nameless reader. That's because Jackson County Fire District No. 3 -- the agency conducting the investigation -- is still waiting to hear from insurance companies that want to discuss the origin and cause with the department. The department has already conducted several interviews and taken photos at the scene.

"They want to go in as partners on that," said Ashley Blakely, Fire District 3 public information officer. "They hopefully are going to be moving forward very soon."

For those who aren't familiar, the fire was called in to emergency dispatch at 9:08 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at a home in the 900 block of Old Stage Road. It put off some flames but mostly smoke, and eventually got upgraded to a second alarm, as there was no hydrant on site. Eight fire vehicles from Fire District 3, Medford Fire-Rescue and Jacksonville Fire swarmed to the scene. It was out in about 45 minutes. During the firefight, Jackson County Sheriff's Office deputies directed traffic on the nearby stretch of Old Stage Road.

No one was injured, but the fire did cause significant damage to the garage.
