Nov. 13--Odessa is one of the hardest working cities in the United States, according to a recent study released by online life insurance agency Haven Life.
Odessa ranks fifth and it's the highest rated city in Texas. Atascocita -- a northeast suburb of Houston -- is the only other city from Texas to make the list at six.
The four cities ranked ahead of Odessa were Bethesda, Md., (four), Tracy, Calif., (three), Arlington, Va., (two) and Walnut Creek, Calif., earning the top spot.
Odessa ranks fifth in total time -- working and commuting -- at 46.3 hours per week.
Average working time per week is 42.9 hours, while the commuting time is 3.4 hours. The percent of population that leaves for work before 7 a.m. is 29.7 percent. The median household income is $58,919.
Haven Life cites Odessa has diversified its efforts from energy to logistics in recent years and the city capitalizing on its connection to the road and rail links in West Texas, the study stated. Odessa has become a home to distribution centers for Family Dollar and Coca-Cola as well as new energy facilities -- coal pollution migration plant, wind farm and nuclear plant -- the study detailed.
