NOW Insurance Announces Two Executive New Hires: Patrick O’Doherty and Christopher Ernest

Business Wire

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
NOW Insurance, a full-stack, AI-enabled commercial insurance platform specializing in medical professional liability coverage, announced today the hiring of two new executives: Patrick O’Doherty as the new Executive Vice President of Underwriting and Christopher Ernest as Director of Underwriting – Allied Healthcare. Both are new roles for the company and reinforce NOW’s intent to become a leader in the medical malpractice and allied health insurance space.

O’Doherty, Executive Vice President of Underwriting, will be instrumental in completing and rolling out the physician’s program for the company. He brings more than 30 years’ experience and leadership in medical professional liability insurance with extensive knowledge in underwriting, and creating innovative healthcare products and services.

“I have watched Phil and worked with him over the past 15 years as he built several successful platforms so I know that his energy level and drive will push this through to success,” said O’Doherty. “I see an opportunity here to fundamentally change the way healthcare providers and facilities are insured, while providing for the new healthcare ‘gig’ economy. Today’s providers are entrepreneurial, work/life focused, and mobile. They will need insurance to match.”

Giving back to the industry has long been a priority for O’Doherty. Training and mentorship are integral to his leadership style. He remains involved with industry associations, such as Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS), and industry conferences, frequently taking part in panel discussions and as a speaker.

As Director of Underwriting for Allied Healthcare, Christopher Ernest will oversee allied healthcare medical professional underwriting, work closely with engineering in the development of underwriting systems and manage carrier capacity. His combined experience in underwriting and data analytics is a direct match for NOW Insurance’s needs in further developing their AI underwriting platform. Chris’s insurance experience spans the industry. He began his career in catastrophe modeling, and has since helped bring new products to market, utilized creative underwriting approaches when dealing with miscellaneous facilities risks both small and large, transformed operational and underwriting processes by implementing new workflows and automation, and grown retail and wholesale distribution channels in the healthcare space.

“What NOW is doing is a completely new way to think about insurance; I do believe we could change the industry for the better. The initial question I faced at the beginning of my career: whether to focus in data or underwriting, doesn’t exist here. I’m excited to use experience from both at NOW Insurance,” said Ernest.

“The combined experience of Patrick and Chris will be a powerhouse for NOW Insurance. These are two crucial roles for the company, and I couldn’t be more pleased with these additions to the team,” said Phil Cabaud, CEO of NOW Insurance. “Patrick has a great reputation in the industry and has been part of the evolution of healthcare liability insurance for over 20 years, while proving his aptitude for creative problem solving. Chris has the ability to analyze and organize data, then also understands how use those insights to inform underwriting decisions. As NOW Insurance continues to expand our distribution network, products and services, we look forward to further developing our platform with the leadership of Patrick and Chris.”
