New restaurant opening in downtown Anderson

Sept. 06--ANDERSON -- The owners of Kettle Top Brew House are planning to open a full-service restaurant and tap room on Meridian Street.

The Anderson Board of Public Works on Tuesday approved a $35,000 food and beverage tax grant to the proposed Creatures of Habit Brewing Co. that expects to open at 1031 Meridian St. by the end of the year.

This marks the third brewery and second restaurant to make plans to open in downtown Anderson by the end of the year.

The Kettle Top Brew House opened last December in the Dickmann Town Center and is physically connected to Ribs Express.

Greg Winkler, executive director of Anderson Economic Development Department, said there are two more potential restaurants looking to open in the downtown Anderson area.

Creatures of Habit will be a full-service restaurant located south of Hoosier Press, which owns the building where the restaurant will locate.

The total investment is estimated at $245,000 with plans to open patio seating in the spring. The restaurant will employ 15 people.

Winkler said Creatures of Habit is seeking financial assistance from the city's Revolving Loan Fund.

The Farm Society plans to open a restaurant at 633 Jackson St. this year.

Creatures of Habit joins Kettle Top and the planned Oakley Brothers Distillery and C.T. Doxey Brewing in downtown Anderson.

The Oakley Brothers recently received a $35,000 food and beverage tax grant from the city and is applying for a loan through the Revolving Loan Fund.

The owners are making a $500,000 investment in the former Norton Building on the northeast corner of Eighth and Jackson streets.

They hope to open by October.
