New MyPath Website Connects More College Students to Career Opportunities

PR Web

MALVERN, Pa. (PRWEB) December 05, 2017

College students can now learn more about careers in the risk management and insurance field and directly apply to job opportunities through the completely redesigned InsureMyPath.org website.

Grounded in data-driven research and user feedback, the newly designed site is aimed at high school and college students, encouraging them to consider careers in risk management and insurance (RMI) and providing them with resources to navigate college, internship and career searches. The new website also features stories from RMI professionals and links to relevant internship and career postings on Indeed.com.

The site serves as an important education link, helping to close the critical talent gap expected in the United States insurance industry. This industry currently employs 2.6 million people, but will need to hire 100,000 people every year for the next decade, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. So even if every one of the approximately 14,000 RMI students around the world joins the industry after graduating, there will still be many unfilled positions.

"Too many students are missing out on great careers in an industry eager to hire them," said Pete Miller, CPCU, president and CEO of The Institutes, the insurance education not-for-profit that founded the MyPath initiative in 2014 at the urging of industry organizations. "The relaunched MyPath website serves to fix that, giving young people all the information and tools they need to plan a highly successful career path."

"I took one risk management class in college, and I was immediately interested," said Kara Owens, global head of cyber risk for TransRe Insurance, one of several young professionals whose stories are featured on the MyPath site. "I applied for a few internships, found a full-time position and have now worked my way up to an amazing role at a great company that's given me tremendous support. I'm very grateful for it, and I've learned that the industry is filled with a lot of good people and opportunities to move up."

RMI is one of several sectors facing a talent shortage as baby boomers reach retirement age--a phenomenon compounded by the fact that many millennials do not have careers like actuary and data scientist on their radar, even though these jobs are regularly ranked as the best in the country. Informed students, then, have a major advantage over others.

MyPath launched in 2014 to excite and educate rising young professionals about the limitless possibilities of RMI careers. With help from more than 100 industry partner organizations, this online resource has reached millions of students through social media, conferences, classrooms and press coverage from publications like Bloomberg Businessweek and The Wall Street Journal.

By revamping and relaunching the site, The Institutes, which have been dedicated to improving and advancing education in the RMI industry for more than a century, have signaled an ongoing commitment to the future of this industry.

Be sure to visit the new InsureMyPath.org today, and please share your feedback through LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook.

About MyPath

Since 2014, MyPath's mission has been to inspire and inform the next generation of risk management and insurance professionals and increase the pool of qualified job candidates for the hundreds of thousands of positions that will become available over the next decade. The MyPath website, InsureMyPath.org, helps high school and college students find career paths in highly rewarding professions like actuary, data scientist, risk manager and underwriter. Through a widespread awareness campaign, MyPath has reached millions of young people, guiding them toward opportunities with some of the world's best companies and organizations.
