Need financial advice? Tuesday’s call-in will put you in touch with experts

Record (Stockton, CA)

The holiday season is officially underway and for some, thoughts of giving also bring thoughts of year-end financial planning.

To that end, The Record will host a free Financial Call-in event from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.

Callers will be able to ask a bevy of questions to seven financial specialists.

They include:

• Steve Dougherty, certified public accountant with Dougherty CPAs, Stockton.

• Frank Feng, financial adviser for the MEMBERS Financial Services Program located at Financial Center, Stockton

• Ned Leiba, CPA with Leiba & Bowers CPA firm, Stockton.

• Tina Wells Lee, certified financial planner with Tina Wells Lee & Associates, Stockton.

• Christopher Olsen, CFP and owner of Bridge Pointe Financial Group, Lodi.

• Norma Standridge, vice president-wealth management lending officer for Bank of America, Sacramento.

• Tom Winkler, CFP with Ameriprise Financial Services, Stockton.

They will be able to address a number of financial planning topics ranging from taxes to bankruptcy to mortgages.

"There is no bad time for financial planning," Dougherty said recently. "The call-in has been successful (in the past) and we wanted to renew that."

The Stockton native said he views numbers and helping people plan as putting together a puzzle.

"I was always pretty good at numbers," he said. "I knew I wanted to get into business and I love saving."

Tuesday will be a team approach in which callers could be transferred from a mortgage expert to a tax expert or estate planning expert, he said.

Additional sessions could be scheduled for anyone with questions that need more review than can be provided Tuesday.

This time of the year, even among the holiday bustle, people should be interested in reducing their taxes.

Dougherty said, "95 percent of what people, particularly businesspeople, need to do to reduce their taxes needs to be done before the end of the year."

No better time than to take a break after Black Friday and Cyber Monday than to check in for free financial advice.

"I've always been a fan of a team approach," Dougherty.

For callers, this provides an opportunity to use this team to their advantage while this team gets the opportunity to help others.

"We get the great feeling of volunteering for our community," Dougherty said. "This is their chance to give back."
