NAMIC Members Up the Ante on Industry Scholarship Campaign

Targeted News Service (Press Releases)

NATIONAL HARBOR, Maryland, Sept. 26 -- The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies issued the following news release:

The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies launched a new scholarship fundraising campaign to support students seeking undergraduate degrees in the insurance and risk management fields to commemorate its 125 years as a national trade association.

Through the NAMIC Mutual Insurance Foundation, the association membership has been challenged to raise $125,000 by the end of its 2020 anniversary year. The challenge sets a goal that more than doubles the amount of scholarships awarded last year and would continue the ongoing success of the program from its origins in 2012 when two $500 scholarships were awarded.

"The goal of this challenge is two-fold - to financially support deserving college students as they pursue insurance and risk management education and to help address the rising demand for talent in the industry in the coming years," explained Randy Druvenga, NAMIC's new chairman and president of First Maxfield Mutual Insurance Association in Denver, Iowa. "By achieving these objectives, members will help students not only fund their education toward an insurance career but will also strengthen service to mutual company policyholders through a qualified and readily available workforce."

Students must be citizens of the United States and plan to find permanent employment in the insurance industry in North America to be eligible for the scholarship. The monies will be paid directly to the school where the student will attend for the fall semester 2020 or fall semester 2021.

To apply, students must complete an online application, which will open on Jan. 31, 2020. All required documents must be uploaded no later than March 31, 2020. Applications will be reviewed and scholarship recipients will be notified by mail by no later than May 1, 2020 with announcement of the 2020 scholarship recipients made at the NAMIC Annual Convention held in Boston next September.

"We appreciate the colleges and universities that offer insurance programs and degrees to their students," said Chuck Chamness, NAMIC's president and CEO, "and we applaud those students who have elected insurance as their field of study; they have made a wise choice as insurance - and especially mutual insurance - offers rewarding career opportunities while serving people in times of hardship and need. Those wishing to join us in financially assisting these students may contribute by visiting namicmutualfoundation.org."

The NAMIC Mutual Insurance Foundation is a 501(c)(3) entity that can accept individual and corporate donations that are fully tax deductible.
