N.A.I.C. FOUNDATION INTERNSHIP PROGRAM: EMPOWERING THE NEXT GENERATION OF INSURANCE PROFESSIONALS OCT. 8, 2025

States News Service

The following information was released by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC):

The New Avenues to Insurance Careers (N.A.I.C.) Foundation proudly announces the successful conclusion of its inaugural Summer Internship Program. Launched to inspire and educate students about career opportunities in insurance regulation and the broader insurance industry, the program wrapped up this summer after a season of hands-on learning and professional development.

Also designed to foster leadership skills and promote financial literacy, the internship experience offered students a unique blend of mentorship, real-world exposure, and educational enrichment.

Highlights from the 2025 N.A.I.C. Foundation Summer Internship Program:

Wide-Ranging Academic Representation: Forty interns came from a variety of academic backgrounds: Finance, Accounting, Data Science, Criminal Justice/Criminology, Actuarial Science, Public Health Administration/Policy, Marketing/Public Relations, Computer Science/Cybersecurity, and Law.

Paid Internships: Every intern was paid by the employing state insurance department or insurance company.

Firsthand Learning: Interns gained hands-on exposure through placements at state insurance departments in Maryland (7 interns), Pennsylvania (8), Kansas (2), and Alabama (10), as well as at Protective Life Insurance in Alabama (13).

Educational Webinars: The program featured three educational webinars: an introduction to insurance careers, leadership and team-building strategies, and personal financial management.

Mentorship and Capstone Projects: Each intern was paired with a mentor and tasked with creating a capstone presentation to showcase their summer experience.

"The N.A.I.C. Foundation internship program showcases our commitment to a vision of recruiting and strengthening tomorrow's insurance workforce today. By providing students with hands-on experience and mentorship, we are not only helping them develop valuable skills but also helping ensure a bright future for our industry," said Raymond G. Farmer, N.A.I.C. Foundation President and former South Carolina Department of Insurance Director.

This fall, the N.A.I.C. Foundation team will visit various career fairs and participate in conferences to promote its mission and recruit for future installments of the internship program. The Foundation expects to post summer 2026 opportunities in December.

ABOUT THE N.A.I.C. FOUNDATION
