May 16-- May 16--A 3-year-old boy and his mother died Wednesday in a car wreck near Manvel, N.D., according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
Amanda Brantl, 40, and her son Atlas were transported to Altru Hospital where they died, a press release said.
Brantl was driving a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta north on 17th Street Northeast about 3 miles east of Manvel when the car left the road, rolled and came to rest upside down and mostly submerged in the Turtle River, the release said.
A GoFundMe page was started to help cover funeral expenses and provide for Brantl's 12-year-old daughter.
"Amanada was a trooper and a beautiful person," the page said. "She was so bubbly and so outgoing and never asked for anything in return. Atlas was so fun and loved to play outdoors, especially with his momma and his sister."
Brantl, of Mekinock, N.D., did not have life insurance, the page said, and family is hoping to raise money for her daughter's future school activities.
"We want to continue her legacy 'kindness goes far,'" the page said.
The Grand Forks County Sheriff's Office, Grand Forks County Water Rescue, Border Patrol, Manvel Fire and Altru Ambulance assisted at the scene of the crash.
