Miami-Dade Transit seeks full-time bus operators

Cutler Bay News (Cutler Ridge, FL)

Miami-Dade County's Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) is seeking applicants for the position of full-time bus operator. Applications are being accepted at miamidade.gov/jobs through Dec. 31.

As a Metrobus operator for Miami-Dade Transit, you will have the opportunity to earn competitive pay, advance your career within DTPW and other county departments, plus plenty of other great benefits including flexible schedules and paid time off.

As DTPW works to implement the new Better Bus Network, the county is stepping up its recruitment efforts as it prepares to increase service levels and create a more efficient, reliable system for riders.

Bus operator trainees will earn $15.49 per hour, and after successfully completing the training program will earn $16.32 per hour to start, plus built-in overtime and an additional 1.5 percent allowance added to the Bus Operators' base pay, and the option of earning double-time for working county-observed holidays.

Miami-Dade County offers a benefits package which includes medical, dental, optional vision, and disability insurance; optional 457 pre-tax savings plans, optional flexible spending accounts, 13 paid holidays, one birthday holiday, and two floating holidays, paid vacation and sick leave, employee contributory membership in the Florida Retirement System, Tuition Refund Program, and career advancement opportunities within DTPW and other county departments.

Your safety will always come first. At DTPW, the safety of the staff and passengers is the No. 1 priority, which is why the department has instituted various new safety protocols since 2020, including immediate access to Miami-Dade County's healthcare benefits for new hires. Additionally, all Metrobuses are equipped with full-enclosure shields to keep operators safe while driving.

Apply now at miamidade.gov/jobs. Search for the open full-time "bus operator" position and apply today.

In order to be selected, applicants must successfully pass a background screening and physical examination and must have the following:

• A high school diploma or a General Education Diploma (GED).

• A form of photo identification, such as a Florida driver's license.

• Proof of having passed the General Knowledge, Air-Brake and Passenger Transport test sections of the Commercial Driver's License (CDL) exam (current and valid CDL permit).

• In accordance with the Miami-Dade County COVID-19 Mandatory Employee Testing Policy, all new hires are required to be vaccinated. Proof of having been fully vaccinated or proof of having received the first of two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines or one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is required.

Applicants without internet access at home can visit any Miami-Dade County public library where they can use a computer with internet access to apply online. For locations and hours, call 311 or visit the Miami-Dade Public Library System website.

Those interested in additional information about the position can call the Miami-Dade County Job Information Hotline at 305-375-JOBS (5627).
