Menendez Reacts to Supreme Court Decisions on Obamacare, Fair Housing

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) reacted to today's Supreme Court rulings on King v Burwell and Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs v. Inclusive Communities Project, Inc:

"Today, the United States Supreme Court stood up for hard working families by reaffirming their rights to both affordable health insurance and access to housing free from discrimination.

"With today's ruling, the Supreme Court has made clear once and for all that the Affordable Care Act is the law of the land and is here http://www.menendez.senate.gov/ to stay. Justice Roberts recognized firmly that 'Congress passed the Affordable Care Act to improve health insurance markets, not destroy them.' I sincerely hope that Republicans take the Chief Justice's ruling to heart and halt their mean-spirited attempts to strip millions of Americans - including 172,000 people in NJ - of the affordable health care they have come to rely on. It is our moral imperative to ensure that individuals and families who are eligible for coverage - either through Medicaid or the Marketplace - are enrolled and fully covered.

"I also commend the Court for upholding the longstanding and well-settled 'disparate impact' doctrine under the Fair Housing Act. It is crucial that victims of discrimination and our enforcement agencies have the appropriate tools to stop unfair and exclusionary practices and obtain recourse for harms inflicted."
