Medica Awards $70,000 in Grants to Nebraska Health Care Organizations

Business Wire

Magis Clinic and Visiting Nurse Association Receive Funding

MINNETONKA, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Medica today announced grants totaling $70,000 to two Omaha, Neb., health care organizations. The Magis Clinic at Creighton University’s School of Medicine in Omaha will receive $20,000 to expand its prescription drug program and its immunization program for people experiencing homelessness. Visiting Nurse Association will receive $50,000 to expand and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of its telehealth services in the Omaha Metro area and surrounding communities.

The grants will be funded through the Medica Foundation. They align with the organization’s mission to provide funding to programs that improve health and address factors that limit people’s ability to get the care they need.

“We are pleased to make grants to these organizations as we begin to establish relationships in the Omaha community,” said John Naylor, Medica president and chief executive officer. “The Magis Clinic and Visiting Nurse Association are important partners because they bring quality health care to underserved populations and we look forward to continuing to work with them on these and other initiatives.”

The Magis Clinic and its partners treat homeless men, women, children and the medically uninsured. The clinic will use the funding to expand its immunization program for people experiencing homelessness. Creighton University School of Medicine students staff the clinic. It partners with local health care systems including CHI Health, which provides physicians and pharmacists for the clinic. CHI Health providers also serve as faculty members at the Creighton University School of Medicine.

Visiting Nurse Association provides a full range of in-home services with an overall goal to help low-income older adults live safe, healthy, independent and high-quality lives in the home of their choice. They also foster a healthy, thriving community through public health programming for high-risk children and their parents, homeless individuals, and breast cancer patients experiencing financial hardship. This funding will support the expansion of telehealth services, helping clients manage their health conditions and avoid rehospitalization in the most cost-effective way.

The Medica Foundation is an affiliate of Medica, which provides health insurance to approximately 80,000 Nebraskans in the individual market who purchase coverage on their own. Medica began offering coverage in Nebraska in 2016.
