McEachin on 7th Anniversary of the Affordable Care Act
Congressional Documents & Publications
WASHINGTON - Congressman A. Donald McEachin (VA-04) released the following statement about the 7th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act:
"Seven years ago today, President Barack Obama signed the historic and groundbreaking Affordable Care Act into law. Millions of Americans at every socioeconomic level now have the security of health insurance because of this legislation. Affordable access to healthcare saves lives. Eliminating discrimination against women and individuals with pre-existing conditions transformed lives. Americans now depend on increased access to healthcare, affordable preventative care, and the ability for young adults to remain on their parent's health insurance plans until 26. All of these improvements have contributed to a healthier nation as well as a better quality of life and outcomes for Americans.
"There is room for improvement, but I will not stand by and watch this country roll back progress tomorrow as we deny access to healthcare for millions of Americans. My constituents have been calling to express their fears and concerns about ramifications of repealing the Affordable Care Act. All the world's great religions call on us to take care of those most vulnerable - the poor, the elderly, the children - and the Affordable Care Act was a significant step in that direction. I applaud President Obama, Vice-President Biden and all the elected officials who stood up and made it happen."
