‘McBee Dynasty’ dad leaving prison one year early, in time for holidays, son says

Lisa Gutierrez, The Kansas City StarKansas City Star

Steve McBee Sr., the patriarch of the Missouri family featured in the Bravo reality series, “McBee Dynasty: Real American Cowboys,” will be released from his two-year prison sentence one year early, his son tells Page Six.

“He is under 60 days now,” Steven McBee Jr. told Page Six’s “Virtual Reali-Tea” this week. “He’s doing great. He’s ready to get home, ready to see the grandbabies and ready to cook us some dinners.”

McBee Sr. pleaded guilty to one count of federal crop insurance fraud in 2024 in U.S. District Court in Kansas City.

As part of a plea agreement he admitted to receiving federal crop insurance benefits he was not entitled to and was ordered to pay a total of $7.2 million to the federal government as part of his sentence.

He was ordered to pay back about $3.2 million, the total amount of federal crop insurance benefits and subsidies he fraudulently received, according to prosecutors, and to pay about $4 million more in restitution to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Risk Management Agency, which provides crop insurance for farmers.

He was also sentenced to 24 months in prison in October 2025. He surrendered himself to the federal prison in Yankton, South Dakota in December.

The current Season 3 of the family’s reality show follows his four sons — Steven, Jesse, Cole, and Brayden — as they try to undo their father’s mess and save the family’s business enterprises based in Gallatin in northwest Missouri.

McBee Jr. said his father will be released on Sept. 11, which means he will have served less than one year of his two-year sentence.

McBee Sr. told People last year that not only was he meeting with “pardon attorneys,” but was also getting advice from fellow TV star Todd Chrisley of another Bravo reality show, “Chrisley Knows Best.”

Chrisley and his wife, Julie Chrisley, were both convicted in 2022 on federal charges of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, and tax evasion, and sent to prison but got out early when President Trump granted them full pardons last year.

The couple’s grown children campaigned the administration hard for those pardons.

McBee Sr. hopes Trump pardons him, too, but his son told People last month he’s not banking on that.

“I don’t want to bet on blue sky. I don’t want to bet on things that could or couldn’t happen. We’re just putting our heads down, grinding and working through things as if nothing is going to happen,” Steven McBee said.

“I think that’s the best way to work through this. If that happened, then great. But we don’t expect it, and we’re working through it either way.”

The McBee son told Page Six his dad is keeping up with the show’s third season from prison.

“He’s actually watching the show, which is hilarious,” he said.
