PURCHASE, N.Y. (AP) _ MBIA Inc. (MBI) on Wednesday reported a loss of $72 million in its first quarter.
On a per-share basis, the Purchase, New York-based company said it had a loss of 55 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were 7 cents per share.
The insurance and reinsurance company posted revenue of $77 million in the period.
MBIA shares have declined 25 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $8.04, an increase of roughly 5 percent in the last 12 months.
