Majority Leader Hoyer Issues Statement on Trump Administration’s Updated Court Filing on Affordable Care Act

WASHINGTON, May 1 -- House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Maryland, issued the following statement on the Trump administration's updated court filing in Texas vs. U.S. in support of dismantling the Affordable Care Act:
"The Trump Administration's ongoing effort to dismantle the Affordable Care Act in its entirety would harm millions of Americans. Because of the law, more than 20 million Americans now have insurance coverage, those under age twenty-six can be covered under their parents' plans, and pre-existing conditions no longer lead to being dropped from coverage, prevented from accessing it, or being charged unaffordable premiums.
"If the Administration's lawsuit were to succeed, all of these benefits and others would disappear.
"That's why House Democrats took action to defend the Affordable Care Act in court. It is also why we will bring H.R. 986 to the Floor next week to block the Administration's efforts to undermine patient protections and preserve affordable coverage for those with pre-existing conditions.
"I look forward to bringing this legislation to the Floor and working with committee chairs and Members to advance additional legislation to protect patients and access to quality, affordable coverage."
