Lujan Grisham: Latest GOP Health Care Plan Still Bad for NM
Congressional Documents & Publications
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congresswoman Michelle Lujan Grisham released the following statement today in response to the latest attempt by Senate Republicans to pass a health care bill.
"With this plan, Senate Republicans are catering to the most extreme elements of their caucus and ignoring the millions of Americans who have spoken out against their efforts to pass a tax cut masquerading as a health care bill. This legislation does nothing to address the concerns about Medicaid cuts or consumer protections raised by members on both sides of the aisle, and instead weakens protections for those with preexisting conditions even further. I urge Republicans in the Senate to reject this callous approach and instead work with me and my fellow Democrats toward a health care system that lowers costs, increases access, and improves quality.
"Like other versions before this, the latest Republican plan would be devastating for New Mexicans with pre-existing conditions. One constituent in Albuquerque is expecting a baby this month that she knows through ultrasound will have a heart defect. The baby will require immediate surgery, followed by at least two more surgeries later in life. The parents are understandably concerned about the health of their baby and the potential costs if the baby is denied health insurance because of a pre-existing surgery.
"We can't allow President Trump and his allies in Congress to dismantle health care in order to score political points."
